Lisa, do you have any pigs out loose on your farm? If all of your pigs are in your barn, the Mud Wallow will not get harvested.

No loose pigs. I usually keep a couple around the mud wallow (especially the cute ones lol), but it's never been a problem before. I only had one prized pig out so I put him in the Prized Barn. Still won't harvest.

Edited to add: So, I decided to take some pigs out of the barn and viola, I can harvest the Mud Wallow.

A few words about farm management. . .

Baby bottles -- Works for me (and Nan) at least exactly how Lisa described it. I wonder why Zynga won't let you do it now, Lisa. And, weird it works for your water but not bb's.

For others, I'll add some details . . . hoarded bb's in your Help Request section of your Inbox are only valuable to you to use when you need them. You can never keep more that 12 in your game inventory for any reason. Example of how I use them-- I usually buy multiple animals at a time so if were I buying 4 cows, I'd use any bb's already in my inventory, then go to the Help Request and accept 12 more, go back to the game, give them to cows, go back to Help Request to get 12 more, etc. P.S. I never hoard bb's that co-op members request or from players who reg visit me and me them.

Nan made a very important point--because the game often lags, the bb's you just retrieved from the Help Requests may not always show immediately. Be patient, they show up in a minute or 2.

Another thing Nan mentioned is keeping around 200 bb's in the Help Request. It's an arbitrary number that fell into over the years. Zynga doesn't want people to hoard so, in the past, it used to empty people's Inbox of items in the Help Request. I don't if it still happens because I keep that section around 200. The exception is if I know I'm going to need extra water in a few days, I hoard it in there for a few days to use. This hack works for water, too, and again on the use it when needed rule.

Like other players, I use Arabians for fertilizers (and horseshoes, of course) but I may keep more in the barn than others. I usually have 25-30 Arabians in my barn at any one time. I never run out of fertilizer and sometimes dump it if I need to go into the barn, so I usually fertilize everything but only because I have it, not out of need, unless a quest says to fertilize some crop.

I don't keep most of my animals in the barn. I keep anything that gives milk, wool and eggs, that feeds 4 rs or less, on the main farm. That's so I can feed them frequently to collect more product without going into the barn so I don't unnecessarily feed Arabians. I usually only feed the barn if I need fertilizer. My farm is always almost maxed out on animals. I wish Zynga would increase the limit.

Prized barn--I only keep animals in there that give the most bang for my buck, that is, for the most part special animals that give 2 items for a small of feed. For instance, 1 Clydesdale gives 2 saddles for 5 feed, special rabbits that give 2 fine wool. Also have to keep some animals who only give 1 items such as goats or pigs, just to have them.

I also keep a bunch of otters based on a tip from an old player. Otters give mussel shells that you can use to make Heirloom Fancy Combs (if your level is over 150 or 158, I think). Each comb gives 10,064 xp which is darn handy when you're trying to level up. I had 25 otters in my barn but I took a bunch out the other days when I realized I have 56K in my inventory. lol

I only have 76/430 animals in my prized barn, but I've been playing since FV2 started in 2012 so my inventory is healthy. Any animals that I don't need at the time but I think are valuable because they give more than normal items, I'll put in the pasture.

A few years ago, I emptied my pasture of everything but 500 animals (which is the number needed for what I don't remember lol) and sold everything else which took weeks and was torture because you have to take animals out 1x1 to sell them. Now there's 575 animals in there so 75 I thought were worth keeping.

The tree trick is absolutely great and I was happy to learn it, but as somebody mentioned Carrie I think, it only works if people like co-op members know to hit your single trees. I have one non-co-op player who visits me reg & me her and I noticed when I first went to her farm that she had a bunch of single trees at the entrance to her farm with a sign that said "Trees 1st pls" which I though was clever. I watered her trees. lol

It's hard to imagine that I'd have more to say after all that above!

I grow water plants every day and fish every day typically. I also feed my prize barn every day and use my sweeties to harvest pearls, ore and mushrooms.

I also store or sell most trees, especially those I had to get for a quest. So, I don't have many groves on my farm but can pick from my inventory usually if I need any.

Cate,

It's odd that what works on some farms don't work on others. Wait .. why does that strike me odd. It's Zynga!

I do find it odd that the baby bottle/envelope thing worked previously on my farm until this time. A detective might surmise that it worked pre-Launcher, but I played at work on a PC before I retired but that's not the case. 8-)

I hoped the lag thing might be the answer but it's not (for me anyway). Water gets added right away as does everything else aside from bb's. I used to hoard those things in my envelope and never lacked for bottles.

Interesting thought on keeping certain animals on the farm not the barn.

Also interesting on the prized barn. I've been keeping animals that need blue-ribboned in them along with special edition animals and like you, normal animals (pigs, goats).

Oooh, I remember about the otters and fancy combs. I need to make some now that I've reached and gone a little beyond the level requirements. 56k combs????

My prized barn could use upgrading but it takes so darn much coins ($84K) and I'm trying to save up enough to expand my farm.

That pasture was a nice feature but it took me days to get them all out of there when I decided they were just as good in inventory to sell off.

I think I missed the single tree trick. I started rearranging my farm to utilize the Farmer Helper grove/crop trick. I really like my farm the way it was but it sure is nice to have a helper give me double the help!

I grow water crops daily as well. Unless I'm strapped for fertilizer then I'll wait a couple of days.

I do have a question to see how the heirloom trees are handled (aside from helping to get shears). I keep a few groves of the wood ones even after they heirloom (like wood trees) or fruit. Used to hoard the heirloom items but recently have been using them for feed. It didn't dawn on me that the heirloom items are a finite number. Sometimes it seems the only reason to heirloom is to save on watering the groves.

I keep a few of heirlooms on my farm that still need to be mastered. I'm a bit OC about crops, trees, animals being mastered or blue-ribboned. :D

I tend to hoard crop items for feed, but just today told myself if I want to expand I need to spend making recipes, soap, wreaths, etc. to be able to sell.

Love hearing how others work their farms. :P

One good reason for heirloom trees, the heirloom items crafted sell for more than their standard counterparts.

I'm OCD about a lot of things. I have all my trees groves grouped together wood, nut, flower & fruit. I wish Zynga would allow us to have more. If I get a quest that requires certain amount of trees to be watered I buy that many (don't know why I can't get in the habit of keeping an empty grove for that type of thing. After the quest has been fulfilled I sell all but 4 of them. I need a whole day I can rearrange my groves so I can remove 1 tree and set it in front of grove. Then people can water them, but honestly I usually need the water from sprinklers worse.

I've mentioned before but if you get the purple double xp clock thing it's a perfect time to go to Carries farm or anyone else that has the heirloom trees out single and water just 4 of her heirloom trees next to river. You will get twice as many coins. Example: purple clock-I get almost 8000 coins versus just regular time almost 4000. If you want to build up your coins fast it's a perfect time to do it.

Lisa mentioning feeding made me think of a tip an ex-player taught me.

I use Peach Blossom trees. An heirloom, fertilized grove produces 38 blossoms worth 40 feed each. So, 1,520 feed for 4 water & 4 fertilizer.

P.S. Lisa, there's a fertilizer cert on the gift page I put in a recent post.

Lately I've been using up heirlooms for feed. I know they are worth more in recipes and crafts which is probably what I should be doing with them. Feed is always the bane of my existence so I hoard everything to use for feed. I have pages and pages of stuff to use but it seems I'd rather have food for feed than food for cooking/crafting. Feel free to correct me on that.

I've been keeping groves of anything that is already heirloomed (go back to regular wood, fruit, etc.). I don't see the point of having to keep buying trees over and over again to heirloom them over and over again? But is that what you do? I think I'm a bit OCD in buying and heirlooming trees that I haven't ribboned in any way yet. I'm probably not doing the whole tree thing right. My farm, if any of you could ever find it lol, could see I still have so many expansions to do but just don't have the coins. I'm currently down to over $17M but those expansions cost so dang much!! Takes me forever to build up enough to buy. I usually wait until I have about $30M to buy an expansion. A strategist apparently I'm not.

It seems lemons are needed a lot so I was just bringing them out of storage when needed but finally just bought a new grove (needed to use up some Favors) to just keep them in.

Nancy, that's a good idea about the purple double xp clock thing. Now if I can just remember it!

Cate: Peach Blossom trees .. I'll have to look into that. So .. referencing my thought above.. once they have heirloomed do you replace them with new trees to heirloom?

And certificates .. I need to use those more. What's the "gift page"?
